Description
The Yaquina Lighthouse sits at the end of Yaquina Head north of Newport on the Oregon Coast. This iconic, historic, 93 foot tall structure sits on basalt headland that juts 1 mile into the Pacific Ocean. It is overseen by the Bureau of Land Management under the U.S. Department of the Interior and is designated as an outstanding natural area. In addition to being a beautiful destination for tourists, the area is a breeding ground for sea birds, offers handicapped accessible to tide pools, and has a fantastic interpretive center. If you're lucky, you can see the breeding pair of peregrine falcons that makes their home on the cliffs or one of the bald eagles that frequent the area. Sea lions can also be seen resting off the cobble beach.

The moody sky really enhances this lighthouse image! Very nicely captured, Catherine.
