Description
What a beautiful flower! This soft pastel dinner-plate dahlia is a gorgeous specimen. This photo was taken on an overcast day at the beautiful fields of Swan Island Dahlias in Canby, Oregon. They put on an annual festival that draws flower-loving crowds from the all around the area.
Dahlias are native to Mexico and Central America and are grown as delicate perennials in other areas. Their tubers are more delicate than bulbs and are susceptible to rot, especially in the wet Oregon winters, so it is recommended that gardeners dig them up and store them over the winter. Treating them with winter care will result in these fantastic blossoms!
