Description
A single red poppy is seen from below on a cloudy summer day in Oregon.
This one poppy was part of a whole field of poppies. I liked the way the crinkled-paper petals look when backlit by the sun.
Poppies are beautiful, but also have symbolic significance. The American Legion adopted this flower as a symbol of remembrance and honor of our veterans. The reason for this was that poppies were the only thing to grow on the muddy, trampled battlefield. A Canadian doctor working in Belgium saw these fields and penned the famous poem "In Flanders Field."
