Artist's Description
The sun sets over the Coast Range and casts its last light over this solitary oak tree silhouetted against a light sky in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. The stark branches form an interesting pattern against the backlight, and the sun throws off some last rays of light as it drops below the horizon.

About Catherine Avilez
I am a nature photographer based in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon. Living in the Pacific Northwest lends itself to inspiration. I am surrounded by beautiful colors and textures, whether in the spring flowers and meadows or the majestic forests and rivers. I don't have to go far to find beautiful shots, in fact many of them come from within a few miles of my house or even my backyard. I also love capturing objects and scenes in monochrome, finding that removing color brings out the essence of the subject. I have a passion for my craft, and am always learning and growing. I hope you enjoy my work. If you would like to see it in person, my photography can be found at Linn County Arts Guild Gifts and Gallery in Lebanon, Oregon.

How those branches look over the sky background, almost like a computer generated fractals.
Catherine Avilez replied:
It's a very cool tree. I think the branching pattern is part of what draws me to it.

In addition to the banner, I am adding this more permanent recognition of its FEATURE on the homepage of A TREE OR TREES IN BLACK AND WHITE. I try mightily to feature only images that would be at home in a juried competition. No doubt about this image fitting that bill. Do consider entry in a juried exhibition. CONGRATULATIONS!

Thank you so much!
