Description
Ah, bears! Ever since I was a young child, it was a dream of mine to see bears in the wild. That desire is married to a hefty fear of the sometimes cranky and often unpredictable predators. A couple at my resort told me where a mama grizzly and her cubs were often spotted, so I headed up there that evening. I didn't see them, but did manage to familiarize myself with the lay of the land. That evening it snowed, and the next morning I headed out before sunrise. I was rewarded with a beautiful view of the three bears, mama and her two large cubs, in the fresh snow. This bear is 399 and one of her cubs is 398. They are a popular group in the park. My hope is that people will love and respect them by giving them their space and not interacting with them. A black bear was recently euthanized due to people feeding it. I worried that although we were all safely by/in our cars (thanks in part to an alert ranger, I'm sure) the bears were becoming used to our presence, and that may be their ultimate downfall.
